Why did japan want more land you say? Well you see, they wanted to become a more powerful, and bigger population. The path to national security, and wealth is controlled by the resources. The Russo Japanese war was “the first war of the century.” It grew out the of rival imperial ambitions of the Russian empire and the empire of japan over Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were southern Manchuria.
Nicholas ll ruled from November 1, 1894 until March 2, 1917. He had a racist hatred for Japan. His reign saw imperial Russia go from being one of the four most great powers of the world to economic, and military collapsed. His enemies called him “ Bloody Nicholas” because of his violent suppression of the 1905 revolution and his pursuit of military campaigns on an unprecedented scale. under his rule, Russia was humiliatingly defeated in the Russo Japanese War.
Russia wanted to gain more warm ports, but warm water port would allow you to carry on trade, and commerce through the winter. Warm water ports are not frozen in winter. Russia needed the water ports for their crops. The Russian Tsar managed to temporarily hold on to port Arthur near today's North Korea at the turn of the 20th Century; but ultimately lost it during the Russo-Japanese War
The failure of the collective security of the League of Nations led to the realization that a universal system of security could only be effective if nations agreed to some limitation of their national sovereignty of 1904-1905.The Japanese wanted to preserve their sovereignty and be recognized as an equal with the western powers and winning a war would do this.
Both Russia and Japan wanted to dominate over the same area. Japan issued declaration of war on 8 February 1904. Three hours before Japan’s declaration was received by the Russian Government, the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked the Russian Far East at Port Arthur. Tsar Nicholas was shocked that Japan would commit an act of war without a formal declaration.
